Since 2005, Celine Clanet has traveled to one of the most northern regions of the world, far above the Arctic Circle in Europe, to photograph this small village of Máze. To Clanet, this beautiful and proud little village is an ambivalent symbol of resistance and helplessness toward environmental changes caused by human impact. Pride in traditional ways of living that are independent from the rest of the world prevail here.
Despite the controversial environmental subject matter portrayed, I find beauty in Clanet's landscapes and am drawn to the stark depiction of its inhabitants.
