For CONTACT Photography Festival, I went to the MOCCA to see their shows that featured both contemporary and historical photography. I was immediately drawn to the historical work of Vancouver's Fred Herzog. Although originally from Germany, Herzog moved to Vancouver in 1952 and it was there that he captured quintessential photographs of postwar life. His visual circus of middle class street life from the late 50s onward serve as icons of a past culture upon which postmodernity was born.
